1. Designing for AOL

AOL - like it or not - is just too large to ignore. It's users make up an
enormous percentage of your site visitors. The problem is that
graphics viewed through the AOL browser look grainy while the same
graphics appear as they should in IE and NS.

Another common problem happens with JPEGs that are wider than
640 pixels. After being compressed the image will automatically be
resized to 640 pixels.

>From America Online: Compression
When the AOL caching system detects that an object is an image,
it sends the image through a compression manager on the AOL
system network before caching it. Compression makes images
smaller for faster retrieval from the cache to members. Members
can individually disable AOL graphics compression, but most
choose to allow compression because it speeds up web page
delivery.

Read more about the potential pitfalls of AOL and what you can
do to resolve some of these issues for your own web site.

2. Browser Compatibility Chart

As talked about in the above article on AOL - it's necessary to
understand that not all browsers are created equally. WebTV and
older versions of Internet Explorer and Netscape could render your site
completely useless.

Some time ago - Webmonkey created a wonderful chart that breaks
it all down for us in black and white by reporting which features are
supported by what browsers. Great info for all webmasters.

** We've Added PayPal **

You wish is our command! As per your requests, we've added
PayPal as a payment option for purchases made in our template
store. For those not using PayPal - don't worry - our old system
is still in place for your use. We hope this makes shopping with us
easier for PayPal users - but if you experience problems with the
system - old or new - please let us know at
mailto:info@thetemplatestore.com

3. New Survey

Once again, I'd like to thank everyone that participated in our old
survey over the past month. The information that you have provided
is invaluable when determining how to make our site better and just
what you expect of it.

While some of the old survey questions are still being utilized, we
have added new questions to which your input is vital. Please
accommodate us once again by taking the new survey when you
have a minute. We will be eternally grateful.

Screenshots

You can use the Window's clipboard to create a screenshot graphic
of your browser window. Open the page in your browser, press
Alt + Print Screen to copy the active window to the clipboard
(pressing Print Screen alone copies the entire screen).
Open a graphics program and paste in the clipboard image.

5. Cool Tool - Browser Sizer

BrowserSizer is a tool to help Web designers see how their Web
pages will look on screen resolutions of 640 by 480, 800 by 600, and
1024 by 768 pixels, and on WebTV. You can control the window
size of Internet Explorer (3.0, 4.0, or 5.0) and Netscape Navigator
(2.0, 3.0, or 4.0). This program provides the accurate size of the
browser as it would appear when viewed full-screen at the selected
resolutions. Very cool and it's free!
