1. So Many Photos - So Few Shoeboxes
Are you still cramming all of your holiday photos
in a shoebox? I
was until I went digital. Then what did I do?
I made a folder on my
hard drive titled "Shoebox" of course.
The digital version of my
shoeboxes became just as unorganized as my cardboard
one so I
had to do something. FotoTime is a shoebox on
steroids. It's an
image organizer that makes it easy to organize
your thousands of
digital pictures. It lets you group your pictures
into albums for easy
viewing, sorting, filtering, and archiving. Support
for popular digital
cameras and scanners make it easy to import pictures
into
FotoAlbum. The program is integrated with the
FotoTime.com
photo-sharing site and includes a Web Sync feature
to copy your
favorite pictures to the Web for sharing with
friends and family. Other
features of FotoAlbum include a screensaver, enhanced
printing,
archiving of pictures to CD, lossless JPEG manipulations,
batch
image manipulations, 2-way sync, and an Office
2000 style user
interface. So mosey on out to the garbage with
those shoeboxes.
They may seem like a trusted friend and ally -
but it's time to let
them go.

2. Give.org
I come from a family dedicated to community service.
Although her
grandparents started the tradition - my grandmother
was the person
that shaped my character when it came to offering
time and money to
local charities. I spent every Thanksgiving and
Christmas holiday in
a soup kitchen while I was growing up and although
I usually went
kicking and screaming - I came out with a heart
full of thanks that I
didn't want for food or clothing or shelter or
anything really important.
The children I saw that day were not as lucky
as I and in reality there
are thousands of children this holiday going -
not without a big
Thanksgiving meal - but without any food at all
right here in the USA.
If you have some time - donate it. It won't cost
you a dime to
volunteer at your local food bank or soup kitchen
for a day. Many
local food banks and the Salvation Army serve
holiday meals to the
needy. If you have some warm clothes you've outgrown
- take them
to a shelter. If you have a few extra dollars
and some time - cook for
a family you know that's in need of a hot meal
and some holiday
cheer. If you have more money than time - give
monetarily. Whatever
you have to give - give it. You'll be thankful
you did.
